Alms Round in Ukiah and Redwood Valley

Description: Monastics walk for alms in Ukiah and Redwood Valley starting at 9 a.m. A small group of monks enters Ukiah and walks north on State Street from approximately 9:00-10:30 am accepting offerings of alms food as is the daily custom in Theravada Buddhist countries. They can be met in front of the Safeway grocery store (on the sidewalk along State St.) around 9:15 am, or in Alex Thomas Plaza in the city center around 9:30 am. Another group of monks walks north East Road from the Redwood Valley town center starting at 8:40 am. A third group walks along Tomki Road, through the local Frey Vineyards.

Full Moon Observance Day

Description: Abhayagiri's Lunar Observance Day

Monastics walk for alms in Ukiah and Redwood Valley starting at 9 a.m. There is no morning meditation or work period on the Lunar Observance Days. A small group of monks enters Ukiah and walks north on State Street from approximately 9:00-10:30 am accepting offerings of alms food as is the daily custom in Theravada Buddhist countries. They can be met in front of the Safeway grocery store (on the sidewalk along State St.) around 9:15 am, or in Alex Thomas Plaza in the city center around 9:30 am. Another group of monks walks north East Road from the Redwood Valley town center starting at 8:40 am. A third group walks along Tomki Road, through the local Frey Vineyards.

Evening chanting, meditation, taking of the precepts and a Dhamma talk will take place at Abhayagiri from 7:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

Songkran - Thai New Year at Abhayagiri

Description:

On Saturday, April 16th Abhayagiri will be celebrating Thai New Year (Songkran).

Please feel free to join us at Abhayagiri for this event. The schedule for the day is:

10am - Arrival time - Please aim to arrive by 10am.
11am - Offering the meal and meal blessing, followed by a ceremonial washing of Buddha Rupas
1pm - Gathering again for Songkran Ceremony

Also, as per usual on Saturday evening there will be chanting and meditation beginning at 7pm.  After a brief break around 8pm, there will be an Anagārika Ordination for two of the long-term lay men that have been staying at Abhayagiri during the past few months.


Saturday Puja and Dhamma Talk

When: 7-9pm, April 16, 2022

Location: Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery, 16201 Tomki Rd, Redwood Valley, CA 95470, USA

Description: Chanting begins at 7 pm followed by a period of silent meditation and a Dhamma talk given by a senior monk. Guests may arrive early at 5:30 pm for tea time if they hope to have a question and answer session with a monastic. The puja and Dhamma talk can also be viewed on the Abhayagiri YouTube channel.
