Daily Chores and Work
Each morning the monastery holds a work meeting from 7:30 to 8:00 am and a work period from 8:00 to 10:30 am. We have a wide variety of projects that people can help with depending on their abilities (see “Offering Services” below for more details). Any help is welcome and greatly appreciated. On the Lunar Observance Days and following day there is no work period. You can find the dates of the Lunar Observance Days and more information about these days on the Abhayagiri Calendar.
Community Work Days
Outside of the winter retreat period, occasionally a particularly large work load will develop and Abhayagiri will host a ‘Community Work Day’. These days provide the greater lay community an opportunity to come out and support the monastery, with a central theme as well as many smaller projects during both a morning and afternoon work session. Please feel welcome to come for all or part of the day and join us for the meal offering. These days are listed on the Abhayagiri Calendar and announced on the Upāsikā Announcements Mail List.
Occasionally the monastery needs volunteer support for various tasks and professional services: cooking, transportation, publishing, transcribing teachings, website development, landscaping, and construction—to list some examples. If you would like to volunteer your support please contact the monastery.
