Playing Audio Files
For slower connections (Dial-up and ISDN)
Downloading the mp3 files may take quite a long time, so we suggest using the 'player' on the website, which will stream the talks to your computer so you can listen while it is downloading. These files are often smaller and of a lower quality than the mp3 files. The player has a selection of recent talks, to listen to other talks on the website use the menus beneath the player to select talks from a particular speaker or by month. If you wish to listen to the mp3 version click the 'download' link. The mp3 file sizes are listed in the table. CD's and DVDs of Dhamma Talks are available at the monastery.
For broadband users (DSL, cable, and satellite users)
You may want to download the files to your computer and listen to them locally or on a portable digital audio player. To do this, right click on the 'download' link of the talk you wish to listen to and select "Save Target As. " Then save the mp3 file in a directory where you will be able to find it again, and play the file locally when it has finished downloading.
Most computers already have software installed to play mp3 and stream Flash files. If you are having problems or know that your computer doesn't have these programs we offer the following two suggestions:
MP3s
Most computers come with media player software installed. Windows PC's have the Windows Media Player, and Apple computers have the QuickTime Player and iTunes which will automatically play our MP3 files. If you are on a different operating system or need a free media player we recommend trying VLC-Media Player, a free open-source player, which can be downloaded here.
Flash
For streaming files based on the Flash technology you may need to install the Flash Player plugin for your browser. If you're having problems playing these files you can insure the Flash Player is installed by going to the Adobe Flash website.
If you experience problems with any of the files or links on our site, please let us know, contact us.
All of our materials are offered for free distribution. For more information on how to support the monastery, please visit the Contribute section of this website, under the Participate menu.
