Lunar Observance

There is no morning meditation or chore period on the Lunar Observance Days. A small group of monks enters Ukiah and walks down State Street from approximately 9:30-10:30 am accepting offerings of almsfood as is the daily custom in Theravada countries. They can be met at Alex Thomas Plaza in the city center around 10 am. Another group of monks also walks through Redwood Valley, and a third group along Tomki Road.

The evening meditation begins at 7:30 pm and is followed by a reflective teaching (Dhamma talk), and the monks hold a meditation vigil until 3:30 am with a break for tea at midnight. This too is an open event for the public; feel free to join for as much of the evening as you like.

Check the monastery calendar for the dates of the Lunar Observances.
