Metta Retreat Led by Ajahn PasannoSeptember retreat in Cazadero, CaliforniaThe SanghaApril 18, 2008From September 7th to September 14th, 2008, a Metta retreat will be led by Ajahn Pasanno, co-abbot of Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery. The retreat will create a monastery environment and will offer an opportunity to explore Metta practice in a setting that differs somewhat from a typical meditation retreat. Retreatants will live the monastery life; following the Eight Precepts, taking only what is offered, and incorporating Metta in every activity. This will include noble silence, morning and evening chanting, sitting and walking meditation, a work period, and daily Dhamma talks and teachings. The retreat will be held at the Padmasambhava Peace Institute, which is located in Cazadero, California, approximately 1 ½ hours northwest of Santa Rosa. The center sits in a quiet setting amongst the beautiful redwoods of west Sonoma County, with mountain and ocean views. This retreat is being organized and offered by long-time supporters of Abhayagiri and members of the monastery's lay sangha, who came up with the idea for this retreat and made the invitation to Ajahn Pasanno. This is the first time that he will be leading a retreat like this in the United States, and offers yogis a rare opportunity to practice what is considered one of the "Ten Perfections" (paramis) and one of the four sublime abodes (Brahma-Viharas). In a time-honored Buddhist tradition, going back 2500 years, this retreat is being offered on a dana basis.
