Community Work Day
First of This Year
The Sangha
March 9, 2008
With the annual winter retreat at Abhayagiri just completed, the monthly Community Work Days give people the opportunity to spend a day (or part of a day) offering help in maintaining and developing the monastery.
The day begins with the morning work-meeting at 7:30 am, which is when the tasks and helpers required are determined. This meeting also includes a Dhamma reflection offered by one of the co-abbots or a senior monk. The morning work period continues until just before the meal-offering at 11:00 am.
The afternoon work period commences at about 12:30 or 1:00 pm, once again with a meeting as in the morning. The day wraps-up at about 4:00 pm, and tea/hot drinks will be served at 5:30 pm. That Sunday just happens to also be our Lunar Observance Day. Those wishing to stay on into the evening may join us for chanting, silent meditation, and a Dhamma talk, which all begins at 7:30 pm. The talk generally ends by about 9:30 pm and on these Lunar Observance Days the monastery usually continues with sitting and walking meditation through until 3:30 am the following morning (with a break at midnight for tea).
Please come and join us if you wish. There are tasks for people of all abilities and levels of energy. There is no need to let us know you’re coming – just come along.
Anyone wishing to stay overnight at the monastery should contact the Guest Monk using our contact form on the Abhayagiri website using the following page link http://www.abhayagiri.org/index.php/main/contact/C72
