Is there anything we can do to help Ajahn P. in his recovery? Hopefully he’s doing better.
Dear Justin,
Ajahn Pasanno is doing very well, recovering nicely. It is kind of you to enquire.
In a response to many whom where asking Abhayagiri this same question you pose now, Ajahn Amaro he shared “Currently he (Ajahn Pasanno) plans to go to a quiet hermitage to rest up for a while, aiming to return to Abhayagiri in mid-January.
Please keep all prayers and blessings flowing in his direction – every little helps!”
So, good time to practice the skill of sending metta. Ajahn Pasanno does a lot of encouraging folks to partake in the practice of Metta so it is fitting isn’t it that he would now be a recepient to our well wishing? There’s a recorded Dhamma talk on Abhaygiri’s website by Ajahn himself, on the the power of heart of metta. Might be interesting to listen to it, practice his instructions and then send these good wishes and feelings of loving kindness onto him, that he may reap the benefits of such good action.
Sakula, was that Bhikkhu Bodhi with Ajahn Amaro in front of the shrine? If so, that must have been quite a treat to have him there too. If not, who was that?
Yes indeed. Venerable Bodhi gave an impromptued teaching on the Mangala Sutta during one of the tea times too. Unfortuantely it wasn’t taped. He went through the Sutta line by line and explained how he understood its teachings. It was so rich and quite fascinating.
Ajahn Pasanno was out of town for the Upasika Renewal Celebration but returned the following day. We only had three days down there but it was certainly not lacking in richness as we had the good fortune of receiving teachings from these three impressively learned and deeply respected monks.
Thanks for the tip. I had tried clicking on the photo, but the photo didn’t get bigger. I guess the stars weren’t in the right configuration. With your encouragement, I tried again and it worked!
This time I could see the faces better. Sakula, was that Bhikkhu Bodhi with Ajahn Amaro in front of the shrine? If so, that must have been quite a treat to have him there too. If not, who was that?
The slides are great. I only wish they were larger so I could see them better. However, I can understand that you have limited real estate on your blog page.
Google has just added a new feature to Blogging and some of you just might enjoy viewing this. I’ve added a tiny slide show of the Upasika’s from Portland, OR. visiting Abhayagiri last year for their second annual renewal ceremony. Take a peak if you like: I think its pretty niffty.
Note: I’ll be changing the slide show from time to time with photos from happenings around our center and community. Might be a fun way to keep in touch with fellow Uapsika’s
And Thanks Antony for the link to Ajahn’s Dhamma talk. I get a lot from his teachings. You were right on track with your support, thanks for thinking of it. Your friendship is deeply appreciated.
Thanks Anthony, i’ll listen to it tomorrow. I’m sure Ajahn Geoff has a lot of great words of wisdom in his talk. I would love to actually meet him one of these days.
I ended up getting a copy of “The Sound of Silence” the other day and was not let down at all. I’ll be honest, I haven’t finished it yet, as it would seem kind of callous of me to fly through it. There’s a lot to absorb and reflect on. Ajahn Sumedho has a different way of approaching meditation than Ajahn Geoff but that’s not a bad thing. I’m enjoying exploring some of the themes he brings up. I’d reccommend this book to any of you folks who haven’t read it. Take care.
If you click on Google maps you’ll see an interactive map of the wildfire burn/ing areas. Once there scroll in a bit and you’ll find an area called Valley Center. Wat Metta is in this area. It shows that they are about two miles from the fires but for now the fires have not reach them.
I realize that Abhayagiri is well out of range of those wildfires you folks out in California are having, however, has anyone heard anything about Wat Metta? I looked on a map the other day and it looks like it could be in an area that has a potential for fires. Has anyone heard whether it has been affected or not?
Hello Justin,
I hope to know more tomorrow, for now what I’ve heard is that indeed the fires are close enough to Wat Metta that they have evacuated. I don’t know anything other than this, where they have evacuated to, how close the fires are, nothing further but will post more information if I hear anything.
Maybe a good time to share merit to the Rain-God of San Deigo huh?
Dhaniya:
“The rice is cooked,
my milking done.
I live with my people
along the banks of the Mahi;
my hut is roofed, my fire lit:
so if you want, rain-god,
go ahead & rain.”
The Buddha:
“Free from anger,
my stubbornness gone,[2]
I live for one night
along the banks of the Mahi;
my hut’s roof is open, my fire out:[3]
so if you want, rain-god,
go ahead & rain.”
