Not Why, But How
Ajahn Pasanno
April 19, 2014

The evening before a memorial service for cherished Upāsikā Iris Landsberg, Ajahn Pasanno reflects on the nature of suffering with regard to our feelings around mortality. He reminds us that the Buddha discouraged questions of “why” we live and die and experience suffering, but rather, taught “how” to live and die and work with our suffering states. This approach leads us away from an attachment to self and towards compassion and loving-kindness for others. This talk was offered on April 19, 2014, at Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery.
